After successfully completing the Residential Wiring Module, students will be able to do the following:

• Identify the service line that comes into a building from the electric company
• Discuss the importance of grounding and identify what grounding is
• Discuss and identify the ground rod
• Define double-pole duplex circuit breaker
• Identify and discuss the purpose of the junction box
• Demonstrate the proper wiring of a junction box
• Demonstrate the proper wiring of a ciruit breaker
• Discuss the purpose of a conveinence outlet
• Identify a conveinence outlet and where it is located
• Define voltage and discuss the difference between voltage and volt
• Demonstrate the proper wiring of a ceiling box
• Deomonstrate the proper wiring of a switch
• Discuss the purpose of a transformer
• Demonstrate the proper wiring of a doorbell.

Objectives:

After successfully completing Activity 1, you will be able to do the following:
1. Identify the hand tools used by an electrician
2. Describe the fundamental use of each tool
3. Identify the electrical components used in wiring
4. State the basic safety principles when working with wiring.

After successfully completing Activity 2, you will be able to do the following:
1. Identify the service line that comes into a building from the electric company
2. Identify and explain why and how the service line must be grounded
3. Identify and discuss the use of the ground rod in the grounding of the electrical appliances in a home.
