After successfully completing the Landscape Design Module, students
will be able to do the following:

• Discuss how landscaping is part of the ornamental horticulture industry
• Explain how landscaping focuses on the beautification of outdoor terrain while combining the principles of art and the science of growing plants
• Understand and define hardscapes and softscapes
• Discuss the basic design elements: color, form, line, scale, and texture
• Explain how the elements of design serve as building blocks for learning and implementing the principles of landscape design theory
• Use software to implement plants and non-living materials into a landscape design project
• Use software to draw a two-dimensional, detailed plan of the landscape design
• Prepare a proposal for a client including design specifics and a quote of the landscape project
• Explore challenge activities utilizing skills and knowledge of landscape design
• Identify career opportunities in the landscape design industry
• Research one career in the field of landscape design
• Use the Internet to research Web sites that relate to the field of landscape design.

Objectives:

After successfully completing Activity 1, you will be able to do the following:
1. Discuss how landscaping is part of the ornamental horticulture industry
2. Explain how landscaping focuses on the beautification of outdoor terrain, while combining the principles of art and the science of growing plants
3. Discuss the three components of landscape design: the client, the site, and the designer.
