After successfully completing the Flight Transportation Module, students will be able to do the following:

• Plan a flight
• Understand how the software, computer, and equipment interact together
• Read and interpret information on a sectional map
• Perform coordinated maneuvers
• Calculate time, distance, and fuel
• Identify possible career paths in the field of aviation
• Read and interpret basic aircraft instruments
• Execute successful simulated takeoffs and landings
• Achieve and maintain designated headings and altitudes
• Demonstrate cooperative learning skills
• Explain some important facts of aviation history
• Understand the four main principles of flight
• Describe how Bernoulli’s Principle affects flight
• Understand the importance of both preflight and postflight checks
• Understand how natural elements and the weather can affect flight.

Objectives:

After successfully completing Activity 1, you will be able to do the following:
1. Discuss aspects of the history of flight
2. Discuss some of the aerodynamic principles of flight
3. Understand the primary controls for aircraft.

1. Learn and perform basic pre-flight checks
2. Learn the instruments and controls of an aircraft
3. Learn and perform a basic straight and level flight.

1. Demonstrate the principles of a coordinated turn
2. Explain which instruments are important in a coordinated turn
3. Demonstrate some of the various types of turning movements
4. Perform a coordinated two-minute turn.

1. Explain headings or directions of travel
2. Explain the importance of maintaining altitude control
3. Explain the meanings of trim and angle of attack and how to apply them
4. Perform various flight maneuvers using this new knowledge.

1. Explain what constitutes a good take off
2. Demonstrate the skills needed to take off
3. Take off from several different airfields.

2. Know which skills are necessary to make a good landing

2. Explain stalls and spins
3. Perform exercises with the flight simulation to deal with some of these problems.

1. Discuss the effects of weather on flight
2. Discuss the problems associated with unusual light conditions
3. Practice flights while dealing with these factors.

1. Demonstrate your knowledge of flight transportation by taking the Post-Test
